One of Canada’s foremost singers of gospel, blues, and jazz, Jackie Richardson is also an in-demand theatrical performer.
Her selected theatre credits include Cookin’ at The Cookery, for which she won a Dora Award, Crowns, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, Blues in the Night, Big Mama Thornton, Member of the Wedding, Gospel at Colonus, Gideon’s Blues, Consecrated Grounds, Whylah Falls, and Not Without Laughter. Jackie has worked with Canstage Productions, Manitoba Theatre Centre, National Arts Centre, Obsidian Theatre, Mirvish Productions, Gateway Theatre, Neptune Theatre, Eastern Front, The Arts Club (Vancouver) and Minneapolis Children’s Theatre.
She has an extensive film and television career, with credits including the current children’s series Doodlebops, and she is the host of the gospel TV series Hallelujah. Jackie has also guest starred on Sue Thomas FB EYE, Monk, This Is Wonderland, and in films such as Welcome to Mooseport, Mr. Bojangles, and The Color of Justice.
She has received the Canadian Black Achievement Award, The Toronto Blues Society Lifetime Achievement Award, and is the recipient of Gemini, Dora, Juno, Jessie, Betty, and NAACP Award nominations. Her family brings her much joy and support and one of the greatest blessings has been to perform with her daughter Kim Richardson.
